Organized in 2007, Spiro Arts is a summer Artist-in-Residence (AIR), workshop program and cultural center. Beginning April 2008 Spiro Arts' AIR program will grant artists the opportunity to live and work as part of a creative community. The AIR sessions run from March through May each year, featuring artists selected from an applicant pool working in a variety of genres and mediums. Spiro Arts requires that applicants be prepared to engage the public and advocates creative interaction. The primary goal of the AIR program is to support artists, researchers, writers and composers in the creation of new works, offering an environment that promotes risk-taking and innovation in art. An average length of a residency is one month with 4-5 participants per term. These residencies are fully subsidized live and work spaces. A $600 stipend is given to defray the cost of food, materials and travel.
Spiro Art's facilities include: semi-private studios for visual artists and large one or two-bedroom live/work studios for writers. A central studio building, with movable divider walls will provide approx. 600-sq. ft. of space per visual artist. This studio building is 2,200 sq. ft. and features large studio sinks, two bathrooms, heat/air, 22-ft high exposed beam ceiling, with lots of natural light and 24 hour a day access. Spiro is a low-tech and non-equipment-based residency, though basic studio equipment such as large easels, taborets, worktables will be available.
Our newly built housing for the residency program is nestled in the foothills of Park City with easy access to hiking trails and minutes from historic Main Street.
Spiro Arts is a member of the Alliance of Artists Communities.
