Spiro Artist Residencies in Park City, Utah
Organized in 2007, Spiro Arts is a summer Artist-in-Residence (AIR), workshop program and cultural center. Spiro Art's AIR program grants artists the opportunity to live and work as part of a creative community. The AIR sessions run from April through May each year, featuring artists selected from an applicant pool working in a variety of genres and mediums. Spiro Arts requires that applicants be prepared to engage the public and advocates creative interaction. Spiro Arts is dedicated to supporting artists, researchers, writers and composers in the creation of new works by offering an environment that promotes risk-taking and innovation. Residency terms are approx. one month with 4-5 participants per term. These residencies are fully subsidized live and work spaces. A $600 stipend is awarded to defray the cost of food, materials and travel.
Eligibility and Guidelines
- Spiro Arts accepts residency applications from emerging and established artists worldwide. We welcome applications from multiple disciplines including (visual artists, writers, composers, singer songwriters, researchers, experimental and mixed media processes, etc.) based upon our capacity to accommodate the applicant's medium or work style. - All applicants must complete a 2010 residency application and submit a $30.00 non-refundable registration fee.
- Applications must be postmarked by Jan. 2, 2010.
- Spiro Arts encourages interactions with our community and we ask all residents to be prepared to engage the public. Our 2010 application includes community outreach ideas, please make a selection or create one of your own by selecting (other).
- Spiro Arts will accept applications from artist teams that are collaborating on a group project, please attach additional sheets listing each artist, engineer, specialist, etc., CV's and each individuals role in the proposed project. Groups will submit one application with the $30.00 application fee, 10 images total, and the $600.00 artist stipend will be split between the group.
- 2010 Residency Fellowships include housing, studio space and a $600.00 stipend.
- Visual artist studios are semi-private and provide approx. 600 sq. feet of working space for each resident artist in Spiro Arts main studio building.
- Writers, composers, singer/songwriters, and researchers live and work in a two bedroom apartment. One bedroom can be your designated work area.
- There are two residency terms each year, approximately one month long: in April and May, with 3-5 residents per term.
- Former Spiro residents can apply; however priority will be given to new applicants.
- Resident accomodations are newly built deluxe private one or two bedrooms apartments with hardwood floors, wool carpet, private bath, linens and fully equipped kitchens with granite countertops. Guests/family members and one small pet are permitted per resident, however ($150.00 dollars of the $300.00 dollar deposit shall be non-refundable to cover additional cleaning costs). One Type-A accessible unit is available. Residents are responsible for their own meals. Other facilities and services include coin laundry facilities and free local bus service. - Upon acceptance into our program, residents must submit a housing deposit of $300.00 dollars (to be refunded at the end of the residency term) and return a signed contract before their arrival.
