Description: Transforming raw material into something - a form -that connects hands, heart and mind is the practice of art. Let's gather together and see what we can create from the ground up. Using the tradition of textile techniques, participants will create three-dimensional forms to communicate ideas and thoughts. Natural dyeing, fiber gathering, re-purposing materials, along with many textile construction techniques will be explored; knitting, crochet, twining, coiling, random weave and much more! The workshop will start in the studio exploring materials and deciding how best to transform them, while employing the six principle forms of construction used in all textile techniques. Participants will utilize sketches and samples of weaving and patterns for use outdoors: sitting with classmates, working, sharing stories and recent textile arts discoveries!
Activities: The workshop will include studio time to create individual works as well as demonstrations and classroom discussions. Workshop participants will leave with samples of techniques and materials, an expanded knowledge of contemporary artists, as well as inspiration for future work.
